Spring Cleaning: Essential Checklist for Performing a Site Audit

It’s that time of the year again! The fiscal year has ended and tax season is making it’s way out the door as well. There is no better time than now to evaluate your website to see if it is performing at its full potential.

Performing a thorough site audit can take a lot of time and energy without the right resources. However, when equipped with a clearly outlined to-do list of tasks, things become much easier. That’s why we’re here to give you just that!

On Page Analysis & Content Analysis

The first thing that you’re going to want to look at before diving too deep is the performance of your individual website pages. You want to be sure that they are correctly optimized, only contain quality content, and are bringing in new leads. To do this you’ll want to make sure your website contains the following things:

Unique Titles

Do all of your pages have unique titles that are specific to the content of the page? They should! If they do not, you may want to consider tweaking the page and inserting a title that fits better.

Appropriate Title Length

Long, sprawling titles are ones that don’t get read or picked up by the little spiders crawling through the internet (we’ll get to that later). You want to make sure that you keep your title between 50 and 65 characters in length.

Optimized Meta Description

Make sure that the meta descriptions for your pages are not misleading, too long, or keyword stuffed. You want your meta descriptions to come in at 160 characters or less and you don’t want to overstuff your meta description with keywords because you think it will help you pull views. It won’t.

Appropriate Keyword Placement

You want to be positive that your page is fully optimized by making sure that your keyword is placed in all the right spots. Those spots being: H1 tag, title, meta description, image alt text, and url. Being sure your keywords are in the right spot ensures that your pages can be easily found.

The main goal when creating a website is making sure that it is able to be found, right? Well in order to do that, you have to make sure that you’ve paid special attention the following things:

Navigation & Site Architecture

Examine the way that your website is set up and then evaluate whether or not it’s a user friendly setup. Even though the layout may make sense to you as the creator, it may not be the same for everyone else. Avoid making design errors that could cost you visitors.

Mobile Optimization

We live in a digital age, there’s no denying it anymore. With this being said, your website absolutely must be optimized for mobile devices and not just desktops or laptops. In the end, more accessibility means more money.

Remember those spiders from earlier? What they do is crawl through the internet and look for pages that have keywords that match search terms. If you optimize your page according to the above guidelines, then these little guys will be able to help you fulfill your dreams of getting to the first page of Google.

Overall, when performing a site audit, you want to ensure that you are ridding your website of anything that does not aid in bringing you views. It’s also important to keep the user experience in mind throughout the entire process. Positive user experience is essential in turning visitors into leads.

So, prepare yourself with this checklist and get started on cleaning up your website today, and pull more leads tomorrow!
